A number of months back I posted a portrait of my wife’s grandmother on my Flickr page. The description I chose was simple and to the point, but the message is clear. Ann is a cancer survivor, one who hasn’t and will not, let this disease change her. Recently I was contacted by James Burns the project manager forĀ Cancer Connections, a ‘unique exhibition documenting the effects of cancer on the lives of Canadians throughout the country’. By partnering up with the Canadian Cancer Society, the goal is to ‘increase awareness of cancer risks, and ultimately, to be instrumental in our own prevention of the disease.

For a while now I have been pondering ways to get involved in the community, and this just speaks to me. My grandfather passed away from cancer before I became a photographer, and my one wish, is that I could have photographed him. Here is what I am proposing; I will provide my services free of cost to anyone who is undergoing treatment, you will receive a DVD of the high resolution images, and I will come to you, anywhere in the Calgary area. All I ask in return is that you allow me to include a shot for the up coming Calgary Cancer Connection exhibition in early 2010.

Feel free to pass this along to your friends, family, co-workers, anyone!
